A sua manipula\u00e7\u00e3o pode torn\u00e1-lo t\u00f3xico e perigoso para a sa\u00fade. Pilhas, l\u00e2mpadas, am\u00e1lgamas odontol\u00f3gicos e alguns agrot\u00f3xicos podem conter a subst\u00e2ncia. O merc\u00fario usado na minera\u00e7\u00e3o do ouro e lan\u00e7ado em rios contamina plantas e peixes, alimentos que podem contaminar pessoas. Povos ind\u00edgenas e ribeirinhos s\u00e3o as popula\u00e7\u00f5es mais vulner\u00e1veis. Est\u00e1 em an\u00e1lise no Senado o projeto (PL 1.011\/2023) para criar a Pol\u00edtica Nacional de Preven\u00e7\u00e3o da Exposi\u00e7\u00e3o ao Merc\u00fario. <\/span><\/p><p><span a Cl\u00ednica de Direitos Humanos da Universidade Federal do Amap\u00e1 promoveu no dia 6 de setembro de 2022, \u00e0s 9h, no anfiteatro da Universidade, uma Audi\u00eancia P\u00fablica para debater os efeitos do uso de merc\u00fario na Amaz\u00f4nia e a necessidade de regulamenta\u00e7\u00e3o nacional sobre o tema, em cumprimento \u00e0 Conven\u00e7\u00e3o de Minamata sobre Merc\u00fario.<\/p><p>A iniciativa fez parte de um Projeto da Rede Amaz\u00f4nica de Cl\u00ednicas Direitos Humanos, cujas institui\u00e7\u00f5es participantes s\u00e3o Universidade Federal do Par\u00e1 (UFPA), Universidade do Estado do Amazonas (UEA), Universidade do Oeste do Par\u00e1 (UFOPA) e Universidade Federal do Amap\u00e1 (Unifap).<\/p><p>A Audi\u00eancia P\u00fablica exp\u00f4s dados e informa\u00e7\u00f5es de pesquisadoras (es), sobre os efeitos do uso de merc\u00fario na regi\u00e3o amaz\u00f4nica e suas consequ\u00eancias para sa\u00fade humana, bem como contou com a
